B. The switched output does not appear to be functioning
Intent: To locate load element, interconnection, or One Series fault.
  1. Turn off all power to the unit and the load and check that the load is connected and operating properly. Are the connections correct and secure? (See Installation & Maintenance Instructions - Wiring Diagrams)

7. If the output is Type D1C or D1D, using a voltmeter, carefully measure the AC voltage between the One Series Load Terminals and Ground (See Installation & Maintenance Instructions - Wiring Diagrams). Using the set point and/or deadband adjustments, cycle the output ON and Off. Does the output voltage vary between approx. 0 VAC (OFF) and the voltage applied to the Load (ON)?

8. Then the SSR is cycling ON and OFF. Turn off power to the One Series and/or the Load, disconnect the Load from the One Series terminal block and test the output load wiring for continuity. Does wiring have continuity?

Note: when using the D1C or D1D to switch inductive loads, a filter (snubber) may be required for proper operation. Without the snubber, the SSR may "chatter" or not switch properly.

9. If the Output Type is D1A or D1B, using a voltmeter, measure the DC voltage between the One Series Switch Output terminations and Ground (See Installation & Maintenance Instructions - Wiring Diagrams). Using the set point and/or deadband adjustments, cycle the output ON and Off. Does the output voltage vary between LOW (when output is ON) and HIGH (when output is OFF) - e.g., between approx. 1 VDC or less and the value of V+?
Does the output voltage vary between approx. 0 Vac and the voltage applied to the load?

10. If the output varies, the One Series output is functioning. Remove power from the One Series and disconnect the load from the output connections. Temporarily, connect the Load wire to the Ground connection. Reapply power. Does the output load now turn ON?

The display reads: VALUE > SET POINT
Intent: Determine correctness of One Series Measurement/Message
  This indicates that the measured process variable is higher than the Set Point value and not less than the Set Point value plus the Deadband value. The output has "tripped" (either "ON" or "OFF" based on the Switch Output Mode selection) and has not reset.
      Verify Set Point, Deadband, Switch Output Mode settings and Process Variable.

The display reads: VALUE < SET POINT
Intent: Determine correctness of One Series Measurement/Message
  This indicates that the measured process variable is less than the Set Point value and not greater than the Set Point value plus the Deadband value. The output has "tripped" (either "ON" or "OFF" based on the Switch Output Mode selection) and has not reset.
      Verify Set Point, Deadband, Switch Output Mode settings and Process variable

The display reads: OVERRANGE!
Intent: Determine correctness of One Series Measurement/Message
  This indicates that the measured process variable has exceeded the maximum range value and is out of measurement range.
      Verify process variable measurements. If the process variable is not over the range limits, contact United Electric Controls or their authorized Distributor for further assistance.

The display reads: OUT OF RANGE!
Intent: Determine correctness of one Series Measurement/Message
  You have attempted to set the product Set Point and/or Deadband beyond the calibrated range of the product.
      Verify the range of the One Series product on the nameplate. Verify desired Set Point and Deadband values to ensure that they do not exceed the maximum or minimum range values.

Table 1 Switch Output Modes:

Example: For High Limit Alarm, when the pressure goes above Set Point the output turns "ON". Both the local and remote status indicators flash, signaling a "tripped" output. The switch resets once the pressure has dropped below the set point value minus the deadband, and both the Output Status LED and I AM WORKING™ output signals return to steady ON.

  1. Is it wired correctly?
  2. Too much current-burned out switch?
  3. Dry circuit-too little current?
  4. Is a wire grounded?

Mechanical:
  1. Has set point changed?
  2. Plunger binds
  3. Malfunctioning pressure sensor
    1. Is plunger moving or is it depressed regardless of pressure exerted.
    2. Has control been over- pressurized so movement is distorted?
    3. Has sensor been subjected to corrosive media?
  4. Pivots binding
Electrical:
  1. Re-wire
  2. Substitute higher contact switch
  3. Substitute gold contact switch to minimize oxidation
  4. Re-wire
  5. Use hi-ambient switch

Mechanical:

  1. Re-set
  2. Replace plunger
  3. Replace sensor
    1. Replace sensor
    2. Replace sensor and protect from over-pressure
    3. Use sensor that resists medium or use chemical seal
  4. Check control ambient & overpressures

Problem: Sensor is not operating-or is leaking medium fluid
Possible Causes Solution
  1. Over pressured beyond control specifications
  2. Is medium corrosive?

Problem: Switch is chattering

    5. Has capillary or bulb or control head been attacked by corrosive medium or atmosphere?
  4. Pivots binding
Electrical:
  1. Re-wire
  2. Substitute higher contact switch
  3. Substitute gold contact switch to minimize oxidation
  4. Re-wire
  5. Use hi-ambient switch

Mechanical:

  1. Re-set
  2. Replace plunger
  3. Replace thermal assembly
  4. Check control ambient & overpressures
